INDIA bloc leaders meet VP nominee Reddy
PATNA, Sept. 5 -- Vice presidential nominee of opposition INDIA bloc, former Justice B Sudershan Reddy interacted with top opposition leaders including RJD, Congress, Vikasheel Insaan Party and Left parties here on Thursday and sought their support for the election to the top post on September 9.
After the meeting with constituents of INDIA bloc leaders in Bihar, former Justice Reddy said that he had agreed to contest for the post as nominee of the INDIA bloc because the coalition represented 63 per cent of the country's population.
" In fact, now, I am the candidate of the entire opposition with various other opposition parties including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also extending support to me. I feel, the post of vice president is not only a top executive post but also a constitutional post . The Vice President who presides over the Rajya Sabha as chairman should have qualities of a judge ," Reddy said.
The INDIA bloc vice presidential nominee also talked about the rich culture and heritage of Bihar and political luminaries hailing from the state like first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad, eminent socialist and freedom fighter Jay Prakash Narayan , former chief minister Karpoori Thakur. He also referred to the association of eminent socialist Ram Manohar Lohia with Bihar.
The opposition vice presidential nominee also emphasised his long career in the legal profession and stressed how he has always stood for upholding the Constitution of India.
Leader of the opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said that former Judge Reddy is the most suitable candidate for the top post and would work to protect the constitution and run the upper house of Parliament in a proper way. He also took an oblique dig at the ruling NDA over the way former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar resigned from his post , expressing it was still not clear whether the former VP actually stepped down for health reasons or for any other reason....
