PATNA, May 23 -- Around 119 sealed liquor bottles (approximately 30 litres) were recovered from the premises of the Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office-located in a high-security zone-even as prohibition remains in force in the state since 2016. Two policemen present on the premises were initially detained after the recovery but were later released following a detailed examination, including breath analyser tests, which returned negative, a senior police officer said on Thursday. The seizure has sparked a political row, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) launching an attack on the state government, questioning how alcohol was smuggled into such a heavily secured area. The banned liquor was found hidden at the under-construction Wireless Bhawan, located opposite the District Collectorate-an area housing the offices of the district magistrate, Magadh Range inspector general, divisional commissioner, and other top officials.
