IMD sounds orange alert in several distts
Mussorie, July 20 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dehradun centre issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in select districts over the next three days, while a yellow alert remains in effect for the rest of the state.
Light to moderate rainfall was reported across several parts of Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours, leading to the closure of 60 roads due to landslides and debris triggered by overnight rain. According to officials, the state received just 0.6mm of rainfall, registering a 96% deficit compared to the seasonal average of 15mm in the last 24 hours.
Monsoon activity remained weak, with several districts, including Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, and Udham Singh Nagar, recording no rainfall.
Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi received only 0.1mm of rain, a 99% shortfall, while Dehradun and Haridwar recorded 3.8mm and 3.4mm respectively, still falling short by 74% and 69%.
Champawat and Pauri Garhwal logged 1.5mm and 1.4mm, reflecting deficits of 91% and 94%. Despite weak overall rainfall, isolated pockets saw moderate spells. Chief amounts included Kalsi (20mm), Haripur (19.2mm), Lansdowne (15mm), Haridwar (10mm), Kotdwar and Laksar (7mm each), Pati (6mm), and Mussoorie (5.1mm). Pantnagar had the highest temperature at 34.7degC, while Mukteshwar had the lowest minimum at 14.9degC....
