PATNA, Dec. 10 -- A delegation of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Bihar chapter, on Tuesday met Bihar's director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar to protest the alleged assault on Dr BN Chaturvedi of the Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) and his driver near the Digha chowk checkpost under the Digha police station area at the Jai Prakash Setu roundabout on Sunday evening. The altercation reportedly began on the JP Ganga Path when the doctor's vehicle and a police team had a disagreement over movement restrictions, following which the policemen allegedly assaulted Dr Chaturvedi and his driver at the Digha checkpoint. Led by former IMA national president Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh and action committee member Dr Ajay Kumar, the IMA delegation pressed for immediate action against the accused policemen. Dr. Chaturvedi, along with IMA senior vice president Dr Sunil Kumar, Dr Dinesh Kumar, Dr Brajnandan, and Dr Sangam Shukla, was present during the meeting. Dr. Ajay Kumar said the IMA demanded the prompt arrest of the guilty police personnel, cancellation of the "false FIR" filed against the doctor, and replacement of the investigating officer.
