PATNA, June 21 -- Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Finance corporation (IRFC), under which three modular operation theatres would be built at a cost of Rs 4.5-crore. The MoU was signed in the presence of IRFC chairman and managing director Manoj Dube and IGIMS director Dr Binde Kumar. Both termed the MoU as a significant step towards strengthening the basic infrastructure for public health services in the state. "With here more OTs, it will augment the surgical capacity at the IGIMS, improve the quality of services to the patients and help in catering to the growing load," said Dr Binde, adding the IGIMS was striving to constantly improve and reinvent itself in keeping with the emerging requirements. The IRFC team headed by Dube also went around the IGIMS, including the Regional Eye Institute, State Cancer Institute, 500-bedded hospital building and other facilities, to have a first hand of the services being offered. The team appreciated the Regional Eye Institute as world class. IRFC chairman said that IGIMS was doing a commendable job despite increasing pressure of patients and assured more assistance in the coming years to further improve and enhance facilities under the Corporate Special Responsibility (CSR). "We will Visit IGIMS every year to contribute more and more," he added, directing his officials to offer required help this fiscal. "There is a growing need to take the good work being done in Bihar, especially by different departments of the IGIMS, to the national level. With wider publicity of the work, the benefits will reach more and more people and the recognition of the institute at the national level will grow," he added.
