PATNA, April 25 -- Amid ongoing controversies over alleged question paper leak and tampering of student answer sheets, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) has reassigned responsibilities to six faculty members in a move aimed at strengthening administrative oversight, officials said on Friday. In separate orders signed on Thursday, IGIMS director Dr Bindey Kumar designated four senior faculty members as his Officers-on-Special Duty (OSDs). Those appointed include Dr Manish Mandal, Dr Pritpal Singh, Dr Nishka Sinha and Dr Binay Kumar Pandey. Dr Mandal, who currently serves as professor and head of gastrointestinal surgery, has been tasked with assisting the director in matters related to academics, research, examinations, student welfare, emergency services, and coordination across departments. Notably, his order does not mention his long-held role as medical superintendent. Earlier, on April 15, he was removed as the institute's spokesperson, with the responsibility reassigned to Dr Bibhuti Prassan Sinha, professor and head, department of ophthalmology, also holding the charge of deputy director (administration). Dr Pritpal Singh, professor nephrology department, will assist in administrative and case-related matters assigned by the director, while Dr Nishka Sinha, additional professor, department of psychiatry, will oversee issues concerning women employees, including faculty. Dr Binay Kumar Pandey, superintendent, physiotherapy department, has been assigned responsibilities related to allied health services. In another key development, Dr Prakash Kumar Dubey, professor and head of anaesthesiology, has been appointed faculty-in-charge (administration). Dr Dubey had resigned from the post of dean (examination) in March, barely six weeks after his appointment on February 1. He was dissatisfied over the handling of complaints regarding alleged exam irregularities, said people familiar with the matter.
