DARBHANGA, June 13 -- The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Nagesh Pratap Singh in Darbhanga on Thursday sentenced Monu Kumar Yadav, a resident of Dekuli village under Bahadurpur police station, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 for attempting to burn his newly-wed wife over dowry demands. The court also sentenced Monu's parents - father Ram Sogarth Yadav and mother Anita Devi - to five years' imprisonment each and imposed a fine of Rs.7,500 on both. The total fine amount is to be paid to the victim, Anupam Kumari. Earlier, on May 28, the court had found all three accused guilty under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives) and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, in Sessions Trial No. 29/22. According to Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Chamak Lal Pandit, on the morning of January 16, 2021, Anupam Kumari - married just a year earlier - was allegedly set ablaze by her husband and in-laws at their residence following a demand for Rs.5 lakh as dowry....
