Hospital building catches fire at Araria; patients rescued
ARARIA, May 9 -- A major fire broke out at the old building of the district hospital in Bihar's Araria on Thursday afternoon, causing extensive damage, officials said.
The hospital's dialysis unit, located on the top floor of the building, was operational at the time. However, no casualties were reported as all patients trapped in the unit were successfully rescued.
Confirming the incident, Civil Surgeon Dr. K.K. Kashyap said, "Five to six patients from the dialysis unit were rescued safely. So far, no casualties have been reported." He added that the extent of the damage would be assessed once the fire is completely extinguished.
Five fire tenders were deployed and had been battling the blaze for over three hours by the time this report was filed. However, the fire had yet to be brought under control. "Additional firefighting teams from Purnia have been contacted and are expected to reach the site within an hour," sources said.
The hospital's storeroom was completely gutted in the blaze, and flames spread to nearby buildings....
