BIHTA (DANAPUR), Dec. 7 -- Home Guard jawans have started getting a daily allowance of Rs.1,121. Earlier, they got Rs.774 per day only. This enhancement is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to the jawans, who had been demanding an increase in their allowances for a long time. "The daily allowance hike not only uplifts the financial condition of these frontline workers but also motivates them to continue their committed service in maintaining law and order across the state," said DG-cum-commandant general (HomeGuard and Fire Services) Shobha Ohotker. The DG said this year 15,000 Home Guards were selected before the elections in three-month record time, of which 11,000 were sent to various districts of Bihar after training within 120 days. Apart from this, the performance of 45,000 Home Guard jawans was also seen in Bihar state polls. This time women commandos and male commandos were included in the department and training was being imparted by retired officers of the Indian Army. The DG addressed a function organised at the Central Training Institute, Bihta, on the occasion of the 79th Foundation Day function of the Home Guard service. The DG further said Rs.5,000 per month would be given to the minor dependents of the deceased Home Guard jawans. In the last four years, more than 9,000 Home Guard and fire services personnel have been trained by sending them to other parts of the country. Control Room of Home guard and fire services link with Emergency Response Service System (ERSS) led to less response time. Bihar is the first state to link Home Guard headquarters with ERSS. Bihar has modern and latest equipment to deal with fire fighting. Around 758 fire fighting vehicles were equipped with GPS systems and all of its employees are equipped with wireless systems. "They provide the main assistance to the police and have delivered in difficult situations," Ohotker added....
