Hectic talks continue in oppn alliance to seal seat-sharing deal
PATNA, Oct. 10 -- Hectic parleys continued among allies in the Opposition INDIA bloc under the leadership of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over giving a formal final shape to the seat sharing arrangement in the multi-party coalition on Thursday.
RJD insiders said the talks with all allies in the coalition including with Congress is continuing with certain hitches on exchange of sitting seats among the allies. The seats in contention include Bachhwara (Begusarai), Warsaliganj, Lakhisarai, Patna Saheb, Digha, Paliganj, Masaurhi and few seats in north Bihar among the Congress, CPI, RJD and CPI-ML(liberation).
There were meetings held at 1 Polo road residence of Opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav throughout the day with different allies including Congress leaders, people familiar with the development said.
People familiar with the matter said that the Congress is seeking seats like Bachwara, Warsaliganj, Lakhisarai from the CPI and RJD even as the RJD is eyeing few seats of Congress likePatna Sahib and CPI-ML's traditional seats like Digha and Paliganj.
"There are issues over exchange of seats among the allies mainly RJD, Congress and left parties. Each of the allies does not want to give up their claim on seats they had contested in 2020 polls. Discussions are still going on," said a senior RJD leader.
He also indicated the Congress' demand for over 70 seats despite being offered 50-55 seats continues to be a tricky issue, which is likely to hed resolved once RJD chief Lalu Prasad holds talks with Congress central top leaders. There are reports, Congress' top leaders including former chief minister of Chattishgarh, Bhupesh Baghel , senior central leaders Adhir Ranjan Choudhary and Ashok Gehlot are likely to have talks with RJD chief Lalu Prasad later in the evening on seat allotments.
Insiders also said the proposal from the Congress and RJD that there should be three deputy chief ministers, one each from Muslim, EBCs and scheduled caste, incase the INDIA bloc forms government and opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav be declared as CM face before the polls has come up as another complex matter amid the seat sharing deals because all the allies have to be taken into confidence in the matter.
"The declaration of CM face of INDIA bloc is necessary. We want Tejashwi should be announced as CM candidate along with the announcement of seat sharing deal. We feel the Congress and other allies understand that this is imperative before the polls. There is one proposal of making three deputy CM. It is being discussed among the allies," said a senior RJD leader, seeking anonymity.
Today, Tejashwi during a presser did not take any questions regarding the reports that there is proposal of making three dy CMs in the INDIA bloc , if it comes to power. Vikasheel Insaan Party ( VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani is among the key claimants for the post of deputy CM, incase INDIA bloc comes to power.
Dev Jyoti, a senior VIP leader, claimed there was no issue about CM face and deputy CMs in the INDIA bloc. " Everything is resolved. There will be announcement soon," he said.
Meanwhile. CPI state secretary Ram Naresh Pandey said that his party was expected to get a respectable seat sharing deal from the RJD and other allies. But Pandey said the Bachwara seat or other traditional seats of the party would not be given in exchange for other seats by the party. " We had contested Bacchwara seat in 2020 polls and it's a traditional seat of the party. We will not give up our claim on the seat. Besides, we expect a respectable seat sharing deal," Pandey said. CPI general secretary D Raja had also met Tejashwi recently.
There are indications the three left parties have been offered 35 seats in total by the RJD but the talks have remained inconclusive as CPI-ML(Liberation) is firm on its demand for 25 plus seats. The CPIand CPM too want more than 10 seats each with CPI having given a list of 24 seats.
Sources in the Grand Alliance (GA) said there are chances a seat sharing deal would be finalised in next two days with possibilities that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, expected to visit Patna on Saturday, would have final talks with RJD chief Lalu and Tejashwi on the seat allotments. "In the next couple of days, the seat sharing deal will be formalised. We are hopeful of resolving the tricky issue of seat exchange amicably among allies. There is a broader consensus on the formula," said a senior GA leader...
