Mussoorie, July 9 -- Heavy rainfall and cloud-bursts wreaked havoc in Chamoli district, with flood waters and debris entering some residential areas and agricultural fields in two villages. Authorities are on high alert, urging residents and pilgrims to exercise extreme caution. According to Chamoli district officials, in the early hours of Tuesday around 4 am, due to heavy rainfall and cloudburst like situation in Mokh Malla Bagad Tok in Nandanagar Tehsil triggered debris flow, damaging a cowshed and a fish pond and two cowsheds in Durma Gwad Tok. Some homes were also inundated with debris due to heavy rainfall. The SDRF team has rushed to the incident site and begun the rescue and relief work, said the district administration officials. Sandeep Tiwari, District Magistrate Chamoli, said, "The Durma Gwad Tok and Mokh Malla Bagad Tok villages in Nandanagar tehsil experienced significant damage, including two cowsheds in Durma Gwad Tok and one cowshed along with a fishpond in Mokh Malla Bagad Tok, and the officials have been directed to conduct relief and rescue operations without any delay." He said both villages face the ongoing threat of house collapses due to severe land erosion, which has also damaged roads and impacted local connectivity Gambhir Rawat, a resident of Durma Gwad Tok, said, "The water from the swollen rivulet has entered the village and damaged cow sheds and inundated the agriculture fields with the mud debris, destroying the standing crops completely, triggered by morning heavy rains, causing a great deal of panic." NK Joshi, district disaster management officer Chamoli, said, "The SDRF teams are conducting relief and rescue work, and 11 families who houses pose a risk of collapsing have been shifted to safe places in the nearby government school till the situation remains risky." In Uttarkashi district the Gangotri National Highway (NH) has been blocked due to debris and boulder fall near Raturi Sera due to which the pilgrim movement was halted briefly at around 8 am on Tuesday morning. Sharadul Gusain, "The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) team was notified of the incident, and the stretch of road was cleared of the debris within one hour of its closure." In the Tehri district, two state Highways (SH) were closed due to boulder fall and mud debris accumulation, and the teams were rushed to reopen the blocked stretch, which was opened after a struggle of four hours, said the district disaster management officials. Brijesh Bhatt, district disaster management authority officer in Tehri, said, "The work to reopen the blocked stretches was initiated and the road was opened for traffic by evening." Meanwhile, a total of 115 remained closed across the state due to landslides and boulder falls of which Chamoli district was most severely affected, with 31 road closures, including 7 PWD roads and 24 PMGSY/RWD roads, according to state government data. Other highly impacted districts include Pithoragarh (18 ), Bageshwar (13), Pauri, Rudraprayag, and Tehri, each reporting 12 closed roads. Authorities are actively working to clear these routes and restore connectivity, according to the state emergency control operation centre bulletin released at 11.30 am on Tuesday. Meanwhile, state recorded 14.6 mm of rain (20% above normal) with Bageshwar recording 36.4 mm (304% above normal) followed by Tehri Garhwal 31.8 mm of rain 228% above normal, and Dehradun 33.2 mm (126% above normal). In Tehri Garhwal specifically, the average rainfall in the last 24 hours was 33.16 mm, with Narendra Nagar recording a high of 110.00 mm....
