Mussoorie, Sept. 1 -- Heavy rainfall across the state in the last 24 hours has led to severe damage in public infrastructure and connectivity in several areas, with a vital bridge connecting Jyotirmath with Malari in Chamoli district being completely washed away by a strong river current, while landslides devastated several parts of Chamoli and Uttarkashi, officials close to the matter said on Sunday. According to Anuj Kumar, Chamoli district information officer, disaster management teams acting on district magistrate Sandeep Tiwari's orders have been dispatched to Malari to aid in the repair of the bridge, which is close to the China border and thus a vital link for border areas. Meanwhile, landslides damaged three cowsheds and killed a cow and a goat in Girsa village.
