PATNA, Dec. 10 -- The health department on Tuesday suspended the block health manager of the Community Health Centre (CHC), Akbarpur, in Nawada district, and issued show cause notices to medical officer in-charge as well as another medical officer for lapses in administration and unauthorised absence from duty, following a complaint by the family of a deceased patient who was allegedly denied an ambulance or hearse to transport the body Keshari Devi, 75, wife of Ramchandra Sahu of Akbarpur in Nawada, was brought to the CHC late on Sunday night between 10pm and 11pm, where she died during treatment. Despite repeated requests by the family members, the hospital allegedly refused to provide an ambulance or hearse. Calling it 'disgraceful', Suharsha Bhagat, executive director of the State Health Society, Bihar, in his order suspending block health manager Kanan Priya, said that such negligence had "tarnished the government's image" and reflected a clear failure on the part of Priya to implement public health programmes and discharge her responsibilities....
