Hate killing: 17-year-old girl killed by father in Bihar's Muzaffarpur
PATNA, May 4 -- A shocking case of hate crime came to light in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, with a man allegedly murdering his 17-year-old daughter because of her relationship with a youth from same village. The incident occurred in Dumri village of Musehri police station on April 24, but the details emerged on Friday when police received human intelligence information about the girl's death.
The accused father was reportedly assisted by his relatives, who assaulted the victim before the former strangled her at their house in the village. After killing the girl, they destroyed evidence by secretly cremating her body at the village without informing relatives.
According to the police, the girl, an intermediate student, befriended a youth while studying at a coaching centre. Soon, they fell in love. On March 17, the girl reportedly eloped with her lover. When her father learnt about this, he somehow managed to bring the girl back with the help of police on March 19. But the girl remained in continuous touch with her lover. On April 17, a bitter altercation broke out between the man and his daughter over her affair. The father then allegedly strangled her in the presence of her sister, mother and grandmother at their house, said police.
"The accused was hurt by the feeling that his daughter tarnished his reputation and made it impossible for him to live in the village. At the time of the murder, her mother, sister, grandmother and brother were also present in the house. The father allegedly threatened them, warning that they would also be killed if anyone revealed anything," an investigator familiar with the matter said.
SDPO Manoj Kumar Singh said an FIR had been registered on the basis of the statement of village chowkidar Anil Rai against victim's father and others. In his complaint, he alleged the father strangulated to death his daughter and her body was cremated in a farm, while ashes were immersed in the river.
"Police arrest the accused and forwarded to judicial custody. Raids/searches are on against the other persons involved," the SDPO added....
