PATNA, Feb. 18 -- Bihar government has identified requirement of 10.49 million houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana after a survey in Bihar and the list has been sent to the Centre for approval of new target, while 20-lakh families have already applied online. Announcing this in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha amid Opposition walkout, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar on Tuesday said that in 2024-25 and 2025-26, the state got the highest ever allocation for 1219000 houses and now the wait was for the new target. He was giving the government reply after debate on the department's budgetary demand of Rs 23701.17-crore, which was passed by voice vote in the absence of Opposition. "Besides, Bihar given has given approval for 91,000 houses under its own CM Awas Yojana to make sure that no poor is left out of the benefits. Bihar government also gives Rs 1-lakh to those who don't have land to avail the benefit of the housing scheme. Bihar government has also given Rs 216.61-crore to 41000 poor families for completion of their unfinished houses approved prior to March 1, 2010," he added. The minister said that the under the Mahila Rozgaar Yojana 1.81-crore rural women had already availed the financial assistance of Rs 10000 each to start their enterprise, while the remaining 18-lakh would get it in due course after verification to set the stage for the next phase of the scheme, under which those running their enterprise successfully could get up to Rs 2-lakh. "We will also get inquiry done against those who tried to mislead the women during election with falsehood and stayed distributing forms and cards for their own fictitious schemes and also collected some money. There were attempts to create doubts about the government's scheme, but the women were smarter, as they have trust in CM Nitish Kumar, who always walks the talk," he added.
