Govt sets up trust for Maa Janaki temple
PATNA, June 27 -- Days after announcing that the designs for the holistic development of the Jagat Janani Maa Janaki temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi have been finalised, Bihar government on Thursday formed a "trust" headed by state's chief secretary for the construction and redevelopment of the temple.
According to government plans, a grand temple will be built at Punaura Dham on the lines of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The trust titled "Shree Janaki Janm Bhumi Punaura Dham Mandir Nyas Samiti" at Punaura village in Sitamarhi district, as per the gazette notification issued by the law department will come into effect with immediate effect.
State's chief secretary will be the trust's chairman while the development commissioner will be its vice-chairman and district magistrate and deputy development commissioner (DDC), Sitamarhi, will be secretary and treasurer respectively.
Besides, there will be five other members of the trust that include -- Mahanth, Punaura Dham Mutt, additional chief secretary/principal secretary/secretary of three departments of tourism, road construction and urban development and housing and divisional commissioner, Tirhut Division.
The bank account of the trust will be operated by the secretary and treasurer.
CM Nitish Kumar had on June 22 unveiled the final design of the Janaki temple. The CM also had announced during his Pragati Yatra that his government would push for integrated development of the religious places.
The construction of grand temple will not only fulfil the people's wish but would also help promote tourism in the state, officials said.
A total of 17 acres of land was made available at Punaura Dham temple premises besides the process is currently underway to acquire 50 acres of additional land to develop the place on a grand scale.
The Punauradham temple holds immense religious and cultural significance as it is widely believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, also known as Janaki who was wife of Lord Ram. She is a central figure in the Hindu epic Ramayana part from Ram. The temple, often referred to as Janaki Janmasthan temple, is a sacred site for Hindus, attracting devotees who revere Sita as an embodiment of purity, devotion and strength.
The site is being developed to enhance its status as a religious tourism hub, with plans for a grand temple modelled after the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, emphasizing its national and spiritual prominence.
The new design plans include a 151-foot-tall structure, wide walkways, and ample green cover, making it ideal for devotees to visit and pay homage to Goddess Sita. Reports have it that the first floor of the temple is dedicated to depicting Sita's emergence from the earth, while the devotees can have the glimpse of Sita in her childhood. The third floor would portray Sita with her sisters....
