Govt is blatantly promoting nepotism, alleges Tejashwi; JD(U)-BJP hits back
PATNA, June 16 -- Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Sunday came down heavily against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, accusing the state government of promoting nepotism by appointing family members of top NDA leaders in various boards and other key posts.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav alleged that several key posts in boards had been filed by relatives of several ministers in the government while the wife of one retired senior bureaucrat , who he called 'DK boss' ,had been appointed as member in the Women's Commission.
"This government is promoting nepotism blatantly. Son- in- laws of several ministers like Ashok Choudhary, union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and deceased former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan have got appointed in various boards. Moreover, the wife of a senior retired bureaucrat, considered close to CM Kumar, has got key posts in the state women's commission, which was recently constituted," Yadav alleged. He sought a reply from the government as to what was the criteria of appointments of relatives of ministers/ bureaucrats in the boards
He also said the wife of 'DK boss' appointed in the state women's commission has her father's name mentioned in the government order instead of her husband. " This is a clever ploy to avoid any public attention of such appointments, which clearly are favouritism," Yadav said.
The opposition leader , waving orders of the appointments at the presser, also claimed that two daughters of JD(U) national working president ( without naming him) had been appointed as Group 'A' panel counsel for conducting central government litigation before the Supreme Court by the union government.
"The JD(U) national working president's daughters have been appointed to such big posts by the central government . These are posts which require years of experience and many cases related to state issues pending in apex court are routed through them. Were there no other senior advocates for these posts?," Yadav asked. The RJD shared an order of the Government of India, ministry of law and justice ,department of legal affairs regarding the appointments of two advocates as group 'A' panel counsel dated October 9, 2024.
HT tried to reach out to JD(U) national working president and MP, Sanjay Kumar Jha for his comments but could get a response till late evening.
The Opposition leader also demanded that the state government must give an account as to how many relatives and family members of bureaucrats in the state have got key posts in the government. He also alleged that investigations into many cases related to corruption charges against state bureaucrats have become slow for reasons best known to powers that be.
The Opposition leader also played down the reports that state scheduled caste commission had sent a notice to RJD chief Lalu Prasad for allegedly insulting a portrait of Babasaheb BR Ambedkar during his 78th birthday celebrations. Reports said the commission has sought a reply from the RJD chief within next one fortnight. " This is all news making efforts. We will reply to the notice.. there are many grammatical errors in the notice," Yadav said.
Meanwhile, the JD(U) and BJP leaders slammed the Opposition leader for making baseless allegations that the state government had favoured family members of senior ministers and retired bureaucrats. Rajiv Ranjan and Abhishek Jha of the JD(U) slammed Tejashwi , stating that the opposition leader should recall how during the RJD's rule, RJD chief Lalu Prasad's brothers- in -laws and other family members used to key posts.
"Our government always makes appointments based on one's educational and other capabilities and not like RJD rule when only family members or loyalists of RJD's first family used to get key government posts ," said Jha.
BJP's Neeraj Kumar too slammed the Opposition leader, stating that charges that government is promoting nepotism is totally false....
