PATNA, May 23 -- Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Thursday slammed the state government for alleged police atrocity on villagers in Muzaffarpur, stating that it was reflection of how governance in the state has taken a backseat under chief minister Nitish Kumar. Talking to reporters, Yadav said the alleged beating up of some women villagers by police of Deoria police station in Sahebaganj, Muzaffarpur a few days back was highly condemnable. " We will take up the matter with the human rights commission. Police atrocity is on the rise and it has happened in Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi. We will not tolerate it. Bureaucracy has become totally dominant," the Opposition leader said. Yadav's reference of alleged police atrocity was to recent incident in Muzaffarpur where policemen had allegedly beaten some women villagers following a clash between villagers and police during a raid at Banga village under Deoria police station. Reports said the police have claimed that locals had pelted stones on them when the raid was being carried to seize illegal liquor. The Opposition leader also took potshots at the state administration over alleged deterioration in law and order, stating that police in Bihar have failed miserably in cracking down on criminals, a reason why crime incidents were on the rise. Meanwhile, Yadav also held a meeting with intellectuals and social activists from the extremely backward classes ( EBCs) at his official residence where he discussed various issues related to the uplift of the EBCs. He also reiterated that his party was committed for increasing the reservation limit and accused the state government of working against the interests of the EBCs, OBCs and scheduled caste/ tribe. "The failure of the state government to put two reservation amendment laws related to hike in quota for backward classes upto 65 % in the ninth schedule has hurt the interests of the EBCs, OBCs , SC and STs. But we will continue to fight and would force the NDA government at the centre to increase the reservation for backward classes proportionate to their population," Yadav said....
