Gold heist on train: Four cops stationed in Gaya suspended
PATNA, Jan. 1 -- Four Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel stationed at the Gaya Railway Police Station have been suspended for looting 1-kg gold on the Howrah-Jodhpur Superfast Express train, an order issued by the Railway Superintendent of Police, Patna, said.
The gold was looted from an employee of a Bengal-based gold trader.
Rail SP Inamul Haque while talking to the HT confirmed the suspension of the station officer and that an action has been initiated against the then Station House Officer (SHO) of GRP, Gaya, Rajesh Kumar Singh, whose role was found under suspicion in the gold robbery case. Singh will face the departmental proceedings.
All four cops have been suspended, and they have been booked under separate sections of BNS and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The incident has not only damaged the credibility of the police but has also raised serious questions regarding the safety of passengers.
Those who were suspended identified as constables -- Karan Kumar, Abhishek Chaturvedi, Ranjay Kumar and Anand Mohan -- who along with one Parvez Alam and former driver of Gaya GRP, Sitaram, executed the loot by misusing their position and authority. Investigation further revealed that the entire incident was planned meticulously.
According to investigating officers, these constables had prior knowledge about a passenger -- named Dhananjay Shashwat, who is a staff member of businessman Manoj Soni -- travelling with a huge amount of gold. Shashwat was travelling in the AC-III compartment with one kilogram of gold (four biscuits) on November 20. As per plan, they confronted Shashwat when the train was between Koderma and Gaya....
