JAMSHEDPUR, Nov. 12 -- Around 74.63% of the 256,000 voters cast their ballots in the Ghatsila assembly by-election till 5 pm on Tuesday, roughly two percentage points lower than the turnout in the 2024 Jharkhand assembly elections, officials said. The polling percentage in the Ghatshila seat in the 2024 assembly poll was 76.4 per cent. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar said, "The voting passed off peacefully in all 300 polling stations across the constituency, and a 74.63 per cent turnout was recorded after matching the final updated data." He said that no untoward incident was reported from any place during the day, excluding two allegations of model code of conduct (MCC) violation. "As many as four cases of MCC violations were registered so far in the Ghatshila bypoll," he added. Kumar further stated that a total of five FIRs (first information reports) were registered for model code of conduct (MCC) violations during the by-election campaigning and voting. "Two FIRs were registered on Tuesday, one for violating the secrecy of the vote on social media and another for moving with money during polling. Earlier, two more FIRs were registered, one for an AI-generated post on social media to malign a person and another for roaming with licensed arms and ammunition," added Kumar. He said that the counting of votes would be held on November 14. "The final polling data will be available after the closing of polls and scrutiny."
