PATNA, Oct. 11 -- Gangster-turned-politician Anant Singh is all set to file his nomination papers from Mokama assembly constituency as Janta Dal (United) candidate on October 14. Seat sharing in the NDA has not been finalised yet. Meanwhile, Anant Singh is moving forward with his decision to contest from Mokama. He has released a poster featuring himself alongside Union minister Lalan Singh. The poster also displays the JD(U) election symbol. He wrote on social media, ' all of you are cordially invited to our nomination ceremony from Mokama assembly constituency in the great festival of democracy Bihar elections'. The announcement is also significant as his wife Neelam Devi is currently MLA from this seat. Anant Singh won 2015 assembly election from behind bars as an Independent after being denied a ticket by JD(U). In 2020, Anant Singh accepted the leadership of Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav and won on RJD ticket. When the seat fell vacant after being convicted in the AK-47 case in 2022, his wife was made MLA by fighting from RJD. However, during the change of power in Bihar in 2024 and the strength test of the NDA government, Neelam Devi changed her side and supported Nitish. Both in 2005 and 2010, Anant was elected to the assembly on a JD(U) ticket. Before parting ways, Anant was considered close to Nitish. The relationship, however, got strained during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The alleged involvement of Anant in Putus Yadav murder case in 2015 at Barh led to his arrest and denial of a ticket in the assembly election. After coming out of jail on August 6, 2025 (with the high-profile Sonu-Monu firing case in Mokama) Anant made it clear that this time he would contest the elections himself and not his wife. Not only this, he had talked about contesting the elections from Mokama on JD(U) ticket. Since then, he has been in constant touch with JD(U) leaders. He previously made headlines in 2018 when police recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and two hand grenades from his ancestral house. After being convicted, he was disqualified from state assembly in 2020. However, in August 2024, the Patna HC acquitted him of the charges and ordered his immediate release from prison....
