PATNA, June 25 -- The Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police on Tuesday arrested four hardcore criminals, including a notorious gangster, identified as Ajay Verma (57), a resident of Choudhary Tola under Alamganj police station of the Patna city sub-division. Verma, a one-time criminal from Patna City area, unsuccessfully contested the 2015 Assembly polls from Kumhrar seat against the BJP's Arun Sinha. He is currently president of Lal Bahadur Shastri Vichar Manch. The police have also recovered a German made revolver, India Ordnance Factory made revolver, two magazines, 98 live cartridges, four cell phones, dongle and a four wheeler. Verma has been facing more than 28 criminal cases of loot, murder and dacoity. He was wanted in the sensational murder of Patna-based youth Guddu Munir at New Delhi's Khajuri-Khaas police station in 2021. In January 2024, Ajay Verma was involved in the murder of one Mohammad Sonu alias Baiganwa under Khazekalan police station area of the Patna City. He had hogged the limelight in 2012 when he allegedly bumped off influential liquor trader Ashok Gupta at Kadamkuan. Later, he shifted base to West Bengal with his wife Sudha alias Sindhu Verma and children. Police officials familiar with the matter said despite his criminal record, Ajay was considered close to a few senior police officers, who allegedly used his connections to nail criminals.
