GA partners to begin distt-level drive
PATNA, May 10 -- Ramping up its pre-poll campaign push, the alliance of opposition parties in Bihar, the Grand Alliance (GA), would begin holding meetings in every district from May 18. The exercise will aim to galvanise unity and coordination among the functionaries of every constituent party of the alliance in the run up to the assembly polls slated for later this year.
"We are planning to start meetings of all six party constituents at the district level from May 18 tentatively. The meetings will be held in all districts and attended by district level workers, leaders as well as state level leaders of all six parties in the coalition. This will be an exercise to work out a strategy for better coordination among workers of all six parties ahead of the polls," said a RJD functionary.
Sources said that the proposal of holding district level meetings of the coalition partners was discussed at the last meeting of the Mahagathbandhan on May 4 in Patna.
"It was resolved that we will have joint meetings of all six parties at the district level as it would help in creating better coordination among workers and also prepare a common strategy for the poll campaign," said another GA leader.
Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan, who has been attending the GA meetings, maintained the district level joint meetings of the coalition partners would be followed by meetings of party functionaries of all six parties at the block level.
"There would be discussion on various issues the GA would be highlighting during the polls and how to strengthen the booth level management. Such meetings would also help the coalition to get feedback of workers at the grass root level," Khan said.
GA leaders said that the opposition alliance has decided to keep the poll campaign on burning issues in the state and highlight how the state government had failed in addressing the alleged rampant migration, law and order, unemployment and education system.

"This is an outreach programme to connect with our traditional voters by making them aware as how the RJD has been championing the cause of social justice for decades and what the party would deliver in strengthening the social justice agenda, if voted to power," said a RJD leader.
He said the opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav's announcements made in recent months like promising to given Rs.2,500 to women from economically weaker sections by launching 'Mai Behan Maan Yojana, increasing the amount to Rs.1,500 from Rs.400 to widows, people with disabilities, etc, is also being highlighted at these small meetings in the state assemblies.
