SAHARSA, July 12 -- Four youths in their 20s sustained injuries when the SUV they were in flung into the air and skidded multiple times on the runway of the under-construction airport in Bihar's Saharsa on Friday morning. The youths, all residents of different districts in Bihar but currently living in Saharsa to prepare for the police constable recruitment exam, were allegedly making reels while learning to drive the SUV on the airport premises when the accident occurred. According to police, Munna Kumar (25) of Biharsharif was driving the SUV, which belonged to a friend, when its tyre burst during a sharp turn. The vehicle was flung over 10 feet into the air due to the impact and skidded four times before coming to a halt. The other injured have been identified as Sagar Kumar (25) of Biharsharif, Lakshman Kumar (25) of Jamui, and Mukul Kumar (26) of Munger. All four were admitted to the district hospital with minor injuries. "Fortunately, none of them sustained serious injuries," said Sarun Kumar of the Dial 112 police unit, quoting the attending doctor. The incident has raised serious concerns about security lapses at the airport site. Superintendent of Police (SP) Himanshu Kumar told HT, "We are investigating how they managed to enter the restricted area. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty." The police have seized the SUV and summoned its owner for questioning. "We are verifying all details related to the seized vehicle. The identities of the injured are also being verified," an official said. The Saharsa airport, meant for domestic flights, is currently under construction.
