Four jail staff suspended, inmates shifted to Beur from Masaurhi
PATNA, June 7 -- Nearly four days after a video of Masaurhi sub divisional jail under trials purportedly consuming liquor and smoking hookah inside the barracks went viral on social media, four prison officials including the jailor have been suspended for negligence.
"The state prison (home) department suspended jailor Umashankar Sharma, warders-Chandrashekhar Azad, Gaurav Kumar and Alok Kumar--for administrative negligence," said an official.
A video had surfaced online showing under trial prisoners, including those accused of serious crimes like murder, drinking alcohol, consuming drugs, dancing, and recording their activities inside the jail premises. The DM sought an explanation from the Masaurhi jail superintendent and jailor in connection with the use of cellphones on the jail premises. The DM said, "The report submitted by the officials did not confirm use of any narcotic substance inside the prison. The activities of the jail administration will be closely monitored. Negligence inside jail will not be tolerated."
