PATNA, April 30 -- Bihar's Gopalganj police on Tuesday arrested four criminals including three involved in gang-rape with an UP-based minor girl during an encounter which took place in Kuchaikot police station area on Tuesday. The police received information about some criminals had assembled in Petbhariya orchard, after which the police set up a trap for them. When the criminals arrived, the police tried to catch them, but the criminals opened fire on the team. Several rounds of bullets were exchanged, and three criminals were injured with gunshot wounds in their legs. A total of four criminals were arrested, all of whom have multiple criminal cases registered against them. They were rushed to sadar hospital for treatment. Those arrested/injured were identified as -- Kariman Kumar, Abhishek Kumar and Sonu Kumar -- all residents of Sasamusa Bintoli. Police recovered a country made pistol, revolver and live cartridges from their possession. Gopalganj sadar SDPO Pranjal said that police first arrested Abhishek Kumar, who confessed that he and his associates were involved in illegal liquor trade. He confessed that his gang members choose an orchard to hide themselves and the place turned as liquor den. "At around 2.30am (Tuesday) police with the help of Abhishek raided the place, some of the criminals started firing on police. Taking advantage, Abhishek also managed to flee from the police clutches. Police officers returned fire in self-defence, causing injuries to Kariman, Sonu and Abhishek in their legs," said Pranjal, adding that the three were taken to the Sadar Hospital. The UP-based teenage girl was gang-raped by three youths at around 4 am on Monday when the victim visited a water outlet near Sasamusa railway station in Gopalganj district to fetch water for his ailing father. Police said that as soon as she reached the tap water point, three youths held her captive and raped her in a nearby deserted lane. The victim later narrated the incident to her physically challenged father, who raised an alarm. Police said that the victim visited Shaympur village to seek medical advice for her father, who underwent a paralytic attack recently. After meeting the doctor, she reached the Sasamusa railway station to catch a train for Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh. "I reached the railway station around 6 pm on Sunday, but the train for Kushinagar was cancelled. As we had no money, we decided to stay at the railway platform at night. Around 4 am, I felt thirst and asked my daughter to fetch a bottle of water from a water outlet," the visibly upset father told the police. The girl returned after a few minutes and narrated her tale of woes. The police later reached the spot and recorded the statement of the rape survivor.
