Flood water enters several villages of Bihar's Gaya Ji dist
GAYA JI, July 17 -- A road bridge and two rural roads were washed away by the flooded Falgu, Morhar, and Muhane rivers following two days of incessant rainfall in the Gaya Ji area, officials said on Wednesday.
Floodwaters entered several homes and cut off road connectivity in parts of Bodh Gaya and Sherghati.
Senior officials and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to the affected areas to carry out rescue and relief operations.
There have been no reports of loss of life so far, according to Gaya District Magistrate Shashank Subhankar.
Heavy rainfall in neighboring Jharkhand has further worsened the situation, with nearly all rivers and their tributaries flowing 50-60 cm above the danger mark. Villages and low-lying areas in Sherghati, Banke Bazar, Mohra, Moratal, Basatpur, Pakari Guriya, Imamganj, Palkiya, Fatehpur, Sherpur, and Bodh Gaya have been inundated, officials said. Several roads, culverts, and small connecting paths have also been submerged, affecting transportation and emergency access.
A key bridge connecting several villages in Sherghati was swept away, and strong river currents have snapped road connectivity.
Heavy water pressure on the Basatpur dam over the Muhane river led to a breach in the Moratal canal, severing the Moratal-Basatpur road.
Road erosion is still continuing in several areas, posing further risk to nearby settlements.
The DM has instructed all sub-divisional officers and their teams to evacuate affected people and their livestock and relocate them to safe shelters.
He also directed the immediate establishment of marine kitchens to ensure food supply to those displaced.
SDRF teams are engaged in evacuating both residents and cattle from submerged villages.
The Flood Control Department is monitoring the water levels of all major rivers every two hours.
The district administration has appealed to residents of low-lying areas to remain alert and report any emergencies to local authorities immediately....
