Five held with arms and ammunition in Bihar's Kaimur district
BHABUA, Sept. 12 -- Kaimur police on Wednesday night arrested five members of an interstate firearms smuggling racket and seized arms and ammunition, officials said.
The raid was conducted near Marahiyan turning on NH-19 (GT Road) under the jurisdiction of Durgawati police station, following specific intelligence inputs. Police had been tipped off that members of the racket, after receiving a consignment of illegal weapons in Bihar, were travelling to Varanasi in a white SUV via a short-cut route.
Acting on the alert, Kaimur Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Mohan Shukla directed Durgawati Station House Officer (SHO) Girish Kumar to intensify vehicle checks on Hata-Durgawati Road.
During the operation, police intercepted the SUV near Marahiyan turning and recovered a sophisticated .32 bore country-made pistol, two magazines and eight live rounds. Four men in the vehicle were arrested and the SUV was seized.
The arrested people were identified as Gurudevni Shiva Kumar and Mahesh Bangarigalla of Adibatla in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana; Anjappa Lokesh of Jaunipalli B Kota in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh; and local middleman Chandan Singh of Karjaon village under Chainpur police station in Kaimur.
Later, arms supplier Kallu Miyan alias Sohrab Miyan was arrested from his residence in Karjaon market.
He admitted to selling the seized pistol as a sample for Rs.55,000, with the deal meant to be followed by bulk orders after testing the weapon's effectiveness.
The men from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh claimed they were businessmen who had sought to buy a pistol for personal safety through Chandan Singh, whom they had met in Telangana.
However, police are in touch with their counterparts in both southern states to verify their claims and check their criminal backgrounds, the SP said....
