PATNA, July 29 -- Five persons suffered injuries and 15 persons were rescued after a major fire broke out at Mayfair hotel on Dak Bungalow roundabout under Kotwali police station here late Sunday night, police said. The fire broke out around 12 midnight in the hotel's meter room, and it was brought under control after a three-hour-long operation by the fire brigade teams. Police said around 25 to 30 people were present inside the hotel when the incident occurred. The incident came to light when a Kotwali police patrol vehicle was passing by the hotel. The officer immediately alerted the fire department and Kotwali SHO Rajan Kumar. Fire tenders, along with district fire officer Manoj Nat, sub-divisional fire officer Ajit Kumar and DSP law and order KM Prasad immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped persons before the fire was brought under control. Police said 15 trapped people were successfully rescued by emergency teams. Five persons were injured in the melee. The injured were admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment. DSP Prasad said, "Five injured persons were shifted to PMCH. One of them has suffered a severe spinal injury after jumping from the upper floor. However, there have been no fatalities. The situation is now under control."...
