Farmer injured by crocodile in Bihar's West Champaran
BETTIAH, June 26 -- Close on the heels of the death of a seven-year-old boy in a man-animal conflict, a 36-year-old farmer was critically injured in a crocodile attack at a village near Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar's West Champaran on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident, Dr. Nesamani K, conservator and field director of VTR, said the victim, identified as Umesh Ram, son of Shyam Sundar Ram, was attacked while wading through the Harha river at Bishanpurwa village under the Bagaha police station area.
"The crocodile attacked and inflicted injuries on his leg. He is undergoing treatment at the sub-divisional hospital in Bagaha," said Dr. Nesamani.
Dr. Vinay Kumar, who attended to the victim, described the injuries as grievous. "We may have to go for plastic surgery or consider amputation of the leg," he told mediapersons. The victim has been referred to the government medical college and hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah.
This is the second crocodile attack reported from the region in recent days.
On June 15, a seven-year-old boy, Abhishek Kumar, son of Kavi Raj of Gari Mandir area under Valmikinagar police station, was killed by a crocodile while bathing in the Triveni canal near Valmikinagar in Bagaha-2 block of West Champaran....
