Dehradun, Sept. 30 -- The family of the 36-year-old journalist, whose body was recovered on Sunday from the Joshiyara barrage of the Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi district, 10 days after his disappearance, has demanded a high-level probe into his death. They alleged that he may have been murdered due to his "fierce and public-oriented reporting." Rajani Singh, sister of Rajiv Pratap (36), who ran a 'Delhi Uttarakhand Live' YouTube channel, said, "We seek a high-level probe into his death. He made enemies because of his fierce and public-oriented reporting. Otherwise, there was no reason for him to go towards Gangori (from where he went missing on September 18). We suspect someone has done wrong with him." "Though our family now owns a house in Dehradun, he was attached to our native district (Uttarkashi). He would make videos and do stories from Uttarkashi. He wanted to do something meaningful for the district through his reporting," she said. Rajiv's uncle Kripal Singh said, "He (Rajiv) was recently threatened to take down a video he made about the poor state of Uttarkashi hospital." Rajiv Pratap was an alumnus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi. "Team IIMCAA regrets to inform that Mr. Rajiv Pratap (HJ, Delhi | 2020-21) has died in mysterious circumstances in Uttarakhand. He was missing since 18th September and his body has been recovered from Joshiyara Barrage in Uttarkashi today. The car, he was driving, was found in the Bhagirathi river earlier. Rajiv was running a digital news channel- Delhi Uttarakhand LIVE. His Family had suspected a foul play in disappearance. The Chief Minister has ordered a thorough and impartial probe into his death. We expect police to come clean with transparency in this case. May god grant peace to Rajiv and strength to family members and friends to bear this loss," the IIMC Alumni Association said in a post on X. Superintendent of police (SP) Uttarkashi Sarita Dobhal said, "We are waiting for the postmortem report, and further action will be taken accordingly. We have found no visible injury marks on the body. Also, in the footage of a CCTV camera, he can be seen driving alone. It is too early to say anything before the autopsy." According to police, Rajiv borrowed a car from his friend Soban Singh, a head constable with Uttarakhand Police, and left the Uttarkashi bus stand for Gangori on the Gangotri highway around 11 pm on September 18. He subsequently went missing and became incommunicado. The car was recovered from the Bhagirathi river near Gangori on September 19. The FIR for his disappearance was registered at Uttarkashi police station on September 20 under section 140 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on the complaint of his uncle Kripal Singh. Soban Singh said, "We spent some time together, and around 10 pm we went to Uttarkashi for dinner. Later, he had a video call with his wife while sitting in the car. When I offered to drive, he insisted on driving and said he would drive alone for some distance before returning. But he never came back."...
