PATNA, April 30 -- Ajay Kumar, an executive engineer in the Planning and Development Department of Bihar, was caught red-handed by vigilance officials on Tuesday while accepting a bribe of Rs.2 lakh in exchange for releasing payment for completed projects in the district. He was arrested from a rented house in Raja Bazar under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in Motihari district, officials said. The action followed a complaint lodged on April 24 by Santosh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Yamunapur under Kalayanpur police station, East Champaran. Yadav alleged that the said engineer had demanded a bribe to process a payment of Rs.68 lakh for completed development work. Sources said the complaint was verified and found to be genuine. A trap was laid, and Kumar was arrested while taking the bribe. Following the arrest, he is being taken to Patna for further legal action.
