PATNA, Oct. 9 -- The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) sleuths carried out raids on Wednesday at six premises linked to Pranav Kumar, an executive engineer of the electricity department posted in Darbhanga, in connection with a case of disproportionate assets, officials said. Pranav Kumar, who also holds additional charges in Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur, is accused of amassing illegal wealth through corrupt practices far beyond his known sources of income. According to the SVU, he allegedly acquired assets worth about Rs.1.59 crore during his 11 years of service. The raids covered his joint house office at Adampur, his houses under Sabaur and Parbatta police stations in Bhagalpur, the electricity office at Laheriasarai in Darbhanga, and rented accommodation at Khaza Sarai in Darbhanga. During the operations, the SVU seized Rs.5.73 lakh in cash, 23 immovable property documents related to two commercial lands at Sultanganj, a commercial under-construction building at Sabaur, and seven plots each in Raghopur and Jotgobind. The investigation also revealed that Pranav's wife, Preeti Sabnam, owns three commercial and residential lands at Fatehpur and Sabaur in Bhagalpur. Besides, Rs.15 lakh invested in fixed deposits and jewellery worth Rs.21 lakh were recovered. An FIR has been registered under sections 13(1)(b), 13(2), and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at the SVU police station against Pranav Kumar. The SVU conducted the searches after obtaining a search warrant from the Court of Special Vigilance Judge, Patna, and seized incriminating documents related to land, flats, and banking.
