EOU raids 6 locations of BSFC accountant in DA case
PATNA, June 28 -- The Economic Offences Unit (EOU), of the Bihar police, on Friday carried out searches/raids at six locations of an accountant of Bihar State Food Corporation (BSFC), in connection with a disproportionate assets case. Such frequent operations against corrupt public servants have created a flutter in the state's administrative circles, making many them feeling at unease and fearful.
The accountant identified as Rajesh Kumar, currently posted at East Champaran, is accused of accumulating disproportionate assets worth more than 201.94 per cent of his actual income. The searches, which began early in the morning, continued till the report was filed.
The searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accountant in Patna, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur and Vaishali. In addition, raiding teams also searched the houses of Rajesh Kumar's close relatives.
Initial searches led to the recovery of documents related to investments in real estate, insurance companies. Some suspicious transactions of money were discovered and some electronic devices were seized. "Evidence of huge investment in real estate has been found during the operation," the officer said.
Earlier, the EOU registered a case against the accountant and obtained order for carrying out searches at the office and residential premises at multiple locations in the state capital and other districts.
The EOU's preliminary investigation revealed that Rajesh Kumar allegedly attempted to legitimise black money through cash transactions, investments in real estate, and several fake accounts. The agency has also identified properties registered under the names of close relatives, which are now under scrutiny.
"If the allegations are substantiated, further action could be initiated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)," said the official....
