ED searches 11 locations under PMLA Act; flat sealed in Danapur
PATNA, June 20 -- Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at multiple locations including in Patna, Nalanda, Ranchi, Kolkata and Lucknow in connection with the NEET-UG entrance exam paper leak case. The ED's action came after it prepared an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) based on the CBI's case. The agency had investigated the large-scale financial transactions and money trail (PMLA ACT) in the case to uncover the extent of the paper leak scams. The raid was on till the time of reporting.
Officials familiar with the matter said the searches were being carried out on the premises related to the mastermind of NEET, Bihar constable recruitment and BPSC TRE paper leak case, Sanjeev Singh alias Lutan Mukhiya and others. Intensifying its probe into different recruitment exam scams, the ED carried out searches simultaneously across 11 locations.
During the raids, tension flared up at Mukhiya's house in Gosain Math area, where his son Shiv Kumar also resides. According to the eyewitnesses, one of the female members of the house allegedly snatched the mobile phone of an ED sleuth. However, the situation was brought under control after intervention of local police. When asked, SHO Suman Kumar denied any such snatching incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Sanjeev and his son involved in the NEET-UG paper leak, were also involved in the constable recruitment scams. Sanjeev Mukhiya, main accused in the NEET paper leak case is in police custody while son Shiv, along with suspended junior engineer Sikander Prasad Yadvendu, recently came out of jail. At Danapur, ED sealed the flat no 607 located at GenX apartment of Yadvendu while searches were on at his residence at Ranchi. A notice pasted on the door by the ED said Yadvendu failed to provide the keys of the flat.
"On asking Sikander Yadvendu to make available the keys of the flat, he informed that they were with him at Ranchi and he won't not be able to provide the keys in Patna at present. In view of the above, assistant director HK Pandey of ED's Patna zonal office, found it apt to secure the premises to avoid any tampering of evidence. Therefore the premise was sealed," read the notice.
Sanjeev Mukhiya, works as a technical assistant in a government college in Nursarai, but was found to have amassed massive property. Investigation by the EOU has revealed that he possesses assets 144% more than his known sources of income. So far, property worth Rs.1.75 crore has been found in his possession while the CBI and ED are investigating his list of property. His wife Mamta Devi had earlier contested the Assembly elections from Harnaut seat on a Lok Janshakti Party ticket in 2020, but lost.
