ED attaches assets of former DIG Prisons
PATNA, Dec. 11 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday provisionally attached movable and immovable properties belonging to former DIG (Prisons and Correctional Services) Shivendra Priyadarshi.
Officials familiar with the development said the ED attached two flats in Patna and movable assets - including bank balances, gold and silver ornaments, fixed deposits, and investments in KVPs, NSCs and mutual funds - collectively worth around Rs.1.52 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
Priyadarshi had allegedly acquired the assets in his own name and in the name of his wife through corrupt means.
The ED initiated its investigation based on an FIR registered by the Special Vigilance Unit on May 4 and a chargesheet filed in July 2023 against Priyadarshi under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to the ED, Priyadarshi - who served as DIG, Prisons & Correctional Services, Bihar, and held postings in Sasaram, Benipur, Gopalganj, Siwan and Patna - indulged in corrupt practices during the check period from June 14, 1993, to May 4, 2017.
The probe revealed that he generated substantial proceeds of crime (PoC), a part of which was deposited directly into the bank accounts of his family members and further layered with the help of relatives, projecting them as legitimate "gifts." The PoC was used to acquire immovable properties such as flats and movable assets, including bank and investment instruments, in the names of Priyadarshi and his family members, and was found to be disproportionate to the tune of Rs.1.52 crore....
