EC to rope in volunteers for house to house SIR in Bihar
PATNA, June 27 -- The district election officers (DEOs) cum district magistrates in Bihar have been directed to deploy volunteers for distribution and collection of enumeration forms to electors along with booth level officers ( BLOs) so that the distribution and collection of forms during house to house verification of voters under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) could be completed in a smooth and timely manner, top officials in the state election department said on Thursday.
The said instructions were given by senior deputy election commissioner Maneesh Garg during his meeting with all divisional commissioners and DMs of the state in Patna.
In the morning , Garg leading a nine member ECI team reached Patna to review the poll preparedness in the state and SIR being conducted ahead of the state assembly polls scheduled in October-November this year.
The last SIR in Bihar was conducted in 2003 .
Sources said the nine member EC team also held a meeting with Chief Electoral Officer, Bihar Vinod Singh Gunjiyal earlier in the day where major aspects of the SIR, which kickstarted from Wednesday, were discussed. The ECI team instructed the CEO, divisional commissioners and DMs that the SIR should be done as per the ECI guidelines and the exercise should be done in a transparent, inclusive manner with full participation of voters.
The EC team also emphasised that ECINET should be used for uploading data of electors along with documents as required to establish the date of birth and/or place of birth of electors.
It was also stressed by the EC that the state election department and election officers should create mass awareness about the SIR with participation of political parties and civil society....
