EC to begin Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls
PATNA, June 25 -- Ahead of the state assembly polls, the Election Commission of India ( ECI) on Tuesday issued instructions for holding special intensive revision ( SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar for updation of the voters' list and ensure that names of all eligible voters are included in the electoral roll (ER) and no ineligible voter is included in the ER, officials said.
The last intensive revision for Bihar conducted by the ECI in 2023. Besides, the SIR, the ECI would also conduct house to house verification of voters from July onwards as part of the Election Commission of India( ECI) drive to sanitise the voters' list, said officials.
The notification for SIR today has kickstarted the process for updation of the ER and would be completed in an estimated time of 35-45 days with all district election officers , electoral registration officers (EROs) and other officers to be involved in the exercise, officials said. "The house to house survey for verification of voters' and also special intensive revision of ER would be going on simultaneously. The BLOs would be engaged in verification of voters door to door across the state," said an EC officer.
The EC's thrust on verification of voters' list this year ahead of the October-November assembly polls is aimed at weeding out duplicate voters ( names of voters appearing in more than one assembly constituency), fake voters' and also delete names of deceased voters' from the list.
A press note said, "While conducting the special revision, the ECI shall be scrupulously adhering to the constitutional and legal provisions."...
