EC reminds Tejashwi to hand over voter ID
PATNA, Aug. 7 -- The Election Commission on Wednesday sent a reminder letter to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asking him to "hand over for investigation" a voter ID card that he claimed to be in possession of despite having been "not issued officially" latest by August 8 afternoon.
Yadav was earlier served a similar notice on Sunday.
The leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly had on Saturday demonstrated an online search with the EPIC number to claim that his name was missing from the draft electoral rolls published after the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and, upon rebuttal from the authorities concerned, alleged that his voter ID card number was "changed".
In a letter addressed to Yadav by the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Patna Sadar-cum-Electoral Registration Officer for Digha assembly constituency, Nitin Kumar Sungh, said, "You are yet to hand over the EPIC card you mentioned at the press conference on August 2. You are therefore requested to hand over the EPIC card in original for detailed investigation to the undersigned latest by August 8 afternoon."
The RJD leader, thereafter, alleged that his EPIC number had been "changed", but District Magistrate Thiyagaraja S M repudiated the claim.

Yadav on Tuesday had said that he will respond to the EC's notice which was sent to him over a voter ID he showed in a press conference.
"A response will be given. What is the big deal? The Election Commission should tell us about several voters who have been left out," Tejashwi Yadav told mediapersons in the state capital on Tuesday.
A complaint has been filed against Tejashwi Yadav at Digha Police Station in Patna, alleging that he holds two Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs). The complaint was submitted by an advocate, Rajiv Ranjan, who has requested that appropriate legal action be initiated.
