Driver killed, 15 hurt in accident near Gaya Ji
GAYA JI, Oct. 25 -- The driver of a tourist bus was killed and 15 pilgrims were injured, two of them critically, when the vehicle carrying them collided with a container truck and overturned on NH 19 (GT Road) under Sherghati police station in Gaya Ji district in the wee hours of Friday, police said.
The pilgrims belonging to several districts of Maharashtra were going to Gaya Ji and Bodh Gaya from Nashik. The speeding bus went out of control and met with the accident while the driver suddenly turned the steering wheel to avoid collision with an oncoming vehicle at about 2am, injured passengers said.
Locals started rescue work followed by Sherghati police team, which later reached the place. The collision was so strong that the front portion of the bus was mangled, with many passengers trapped inside. A long traffic jam occurred on the busy NH, which the police cleared after hectic efforts, police said.
Deceased was identified as driver Akshay Gujawana (40). The injured with fractured leg or broken hand and other injuries were Asit Yadav, Aditya, Sarita Dogre, Ganesh Narayan Pawar, Saraswati, Surekha Kumari, Ashok Gaidaji Vansode, Prem Gaikwad, Sanjeewani Prem and Meghani Sukhe were sent to sub-divisional hospital at Sherghati by ambulance, police said....
