DARBHANGA, Dec. 5 -- District magistrate (DM) Kaushal Kumar on Thursday chaired a review meeting to finalise the proposed alignment for improving connectivity between the Shobhan-Ekmi Ghat road and the upcoming AIIMS Darbhanga. The meeting, held at the district headquarters, discussed the construction of a 4-lane approach road (1 km) up to AIIMS under the Road Division, Darbhanga, along with the widening and strengthening of the 10-km Shobhan-Ekmi Ghat stretch. Officials present included the district land acquisition officer; executive engineer, road division; assistant engineer, sub-division-1; and representatives from Arch-Aid Architects & Engineers Pvt Ltd, the consulting agency. According to the executive engineer, the tender process for upgrading the Shobhan-Ekmi Ghat road from two lanes to four lanes is nearing completion and a contractor has already been selected. DM Kaushal Kumar directed the land acquisition officer to expedite acquisition-related processes to ensure timely execution of the project. A major portion of the discussion centred on modifying nearly 400 metres of alignment near Shobhan Chowk. Officials explained that the proposed 4-lane road merges with NH-27, which is already a 4-lane corridor. Providing a straight 90-degree junction at this point would not be technically feasible or safe. To maintain design speed and ensure road safety, the alignment needs to be altered over a 400-metre stretch for smoother and safer traffic flow. The executive engineer further informed that, parallel to the proposed four-lane road, another project-from Shobhan to Makia along the western high embankment of the Khirhoi river-is also under construction. Both roads converge at Shobhan Chowk, where an HL RCC bridge exists on NH-27, making conventional junction development technically unsuitable....
