PATNA, May 9 -- Senior BJP leader Dilip Kumar Jaiswal assumed charge as the new revenue and land reforms minister on Friday, stepping into a department grappling with massive backlogs and a battered public image following months of strikes by its officers and staff. Jaiswal, who previously handled the department, was among the 32 ministers inducted into the expanded NDA cabinet on Thursday. After taking charge at the departmental office, he outlined an ambitious agenda focused on restoring bureaucratic efficiency and public trust. "The revenue and land reforms department is a challenging department, and our effort is to ensure that general public receives services efficiently," he said. "Seventy per cent of Bihar's population depends on the revenue department, and my goal will be to ensure that these services are provided with honesty and transparency. Wrongdoers will not be spared at any cost. Officials will work day and night to complete pending public works." The department has been severely affected by a prolonged agitation, with circle officers, revenue officers and field staff staying away on mass casual leave for months. Officials estimate more than 40 lakh cases of discrepancies in land records, over six lakh pending mutation petitions and more than 20,000 requests for land measurement remain unresolved. Besides, the staff and officers are deemed to play a crucial role in the ongoing census. Jaiswal announced a special three-month campaign would be launched to clear these long-pending works. He acknowledged that the strike had not only delayed public services but also damaged the department's reputation. "The strike has now ended, and we will put the system back on track," he said, urging officials and employees to show commitment. Jaiswal also issued a strong warning to land mafias active in the state. "Chief minister Samrat Choudhary has given a clear message - land mafias should either mend their ways or leave Bihar," he said....
