KATIHAR, May 24 -- The headmistress of Upgraded Middle School, Amoul South, under Falka block in Bihar's Katihar district, has been suspended following a preliminary inquiry into the poor quality of the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) served to students, officials said. The incident came to light on Thursday when several students fell ill after consuming the school meal. Three children alleged they were served contaminated food and reported finding a dead lizard in their meal. Complaining of nausea and vomiting, the children were admitted to the Public Health Centre (PHC) in Falka. "They were discharged within an hour as their condition was not serious," a doctor at the PHC said, attributing the symptoms to panic rather than poisoning. District Education Officer (DEO) Amit Kumar confirmed that the initial investigation revealed lapses in food quality and hygiene. "Prima facie, the probe team found serious negligence in the preparation of MDM," he told Hindustan Times over the phone on Friday.
