DARBHANGA, June 6 -- Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday visited Darbhanga and announced that a life-size statue of freedom fighter Shahid Suraj Narayan Singh will soon be installed in Darbhanga. The announcement was made during a memorial event held at Polo Ground, Laheriasarai, to mark the 119th birth anniversary of the revolutionary leader. Addressing the gathering, the CM said, "A grand memorial of Suraj Narayan Singh will be established in Darbhanga town to honour his sacrifices. The district administration has been directed to oversee the installation of his statue in the city." He further added that, similar to the annual program held in Patna, an official state-level event will now also be organised in Darbhanga to commemorate the martyr. Born on May 17, 1906, in Narpatinagar village of Darbhanga district, Singh played a prominent role in the "salt satyagraha" as part of the Civil Disobedience Movement. He died in 1973....
