PATNA, April 1 -- Sleuths of Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Tuesday carried out simultaneous raids/searches at the 12 locations of Kishanganj SDPO, Gautam Kumar and DRDA Director, Saharsa, Vaibhav Kumar in separate disproportionate assets (DA) cases. SDPO Gautam Kumar is accused of amassing assets worth over Rs.1.94 crore, which is about 60.27% more than his income while Vaibhav Kumar is accused of amassing a total of Rs.2.41 crore in disproportionate assets, which is about 78.03% more than his income.
Officials said, in Kishanganj, the EOU team raided Gautam's house and office located at Housing Colony, Dharamganj besides in-laws house in Purnea. They examined documents and other belongings. The SDPO is currently in Gujarat. During search, EOU found that the SDPO has bought four plots in the name of his wife, while he has bought seven precious plots in the name of his female friend Shagufta Khatoon from the year 2019 till date. The market value of which is currently in crores of rupees. In addition, he has purchased three plots in the name of his mother-in-law and one in the name of his son. However, later Shagufta gifted all the land to Gautam's sons and returned it. The SDPO has transferred a large amount in the bank accounts of his female friend through cash/electronic means.
As a SI of 1994 batch, he was first joined in Kishanganj in 1996. After promotion, he contributed to the post of Inspector in 2013 and DSP in 2019. At present he was posted as SDPO-1, Kishanganj. During his long tenure, he served mostly in the four districts of Seemanchal including Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea and Katihar.
It is alleged that in the recent past, the SDPO had played an active role in several cases of illegal sand mining, illegal lottery playing, cattle smuggling, leading to the amassing illegal wealth. He is allegedly using two mobile SIMs issued in the name of another to conduct his illegal business.
Gautam Kumar is a native of Patna district and married to Ruby Kashyap, who is a teacher appointed in the year 1999. A palatial house in Purnia city and about three bighas of commercial/residential/agricultural land along the national highway in Dagrua of Purnia have been purchased in the name of two and their close relatives and friends....
