Dehradun, Nov. 27 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday said every citizen of India remains indebted to the bravery, sacrifice and unwavering patriotism of Gorkha soldiers, and their valour has shaped the nation's military history. He said this while speaking at the 75th anniversary celebrations of the All India Gorkha Ex-Servicemen's Welfare Association in Dehradun. Dhami attended the ceremony held at the Late Harbans Kapoor Memorial Auditorium in Garhi Cantt, where he unveiled a statue of Barrister Ari Bahadur Gurung, one of the distinguished signatories to the Indian Constitution, and released the association's commemorative souvenir. The CM said that Gurung was not only a Parliament member but also played a significant role in drafting the Constitution. "This is not merely the anniversary of an organisation. It is a celebration of the indomitable courage, dedication, patriotism and glorious martial tradition that Gorkha soldiers have carried forward for centuries," he said He said the valour of Gorkha soldiers is widely recognised across the world. "No war story is complete without the Gorkhas," he said, adding that the Union government's decision to grant "All India" status to the association reflects the prestige and contribution of the community. Dhami praised the association for its transparent and dedicated service over the past seven decades. He said that lakhs of Gorkha ex-servicemen, their families and dependents living across the country are receiving support through the organisation. The association has also been conducting free vocational training programmes for several years, benefiting youngsters from both the Gorkha community and other communities, he said. Recalling the battlefield reputation of the Gorkhas, the CM said their bravery is legendary. "It is said that where the Gorkhas have stood, the enemy has never been able to stand. For them, the khukri is not just a weapon, it's a pledge to defend the motherland," he said. Gorkha soldiers, he added, have played a crucial role in safeguarding India's borders for centuries. Dhami also highlighted the contribution of the Gorkha community to the state's development. "Their hard work, discipline and commitment are visible in every sector. The state government holds their contribution in high regard," he said. Sainik welfare minister Ganesh Joshi said Gorkha soldiers have displayed exceptional courage in every war and on every front. "The Gorkha community not only strengthens our borders but also contributes significantly to the overall development of the state," he said....
