PATNA, July 17 -- Drawing lessons from murders of industrialist Gopal Khemka, advocate Jitendra Kumar Mehta and private school owner Ajit Kumar, Patna police have decided to set up a contract killer cell to combat the new trend of hiring young shooters to carry out crime. "The cell will have a database of old sharpshooters and contract killers, and it will maintain the record of visitors to jails and keep constant vigil," said ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan. He said of an estimated 80-lakh population of Patna district, around 30 lakh lived in the towns and of them around five lakh were estimated to be youth. "It has been found that many youth found to be involved in crime live in lodge/private hostels/college hostels and it is not known if they are registered or not. Lure of money pushes these youth into petty crime and gradually they become shooters to carry out big crimes," he added. Krishnan said the police headquarters was satisfied with the probe into the Gopal Khemka murder case. "Had there been CCTV backup in Bankipore Club, the police would have cracked the murder case within a day, instead of three days," he added. The ADG said land dispute had surfaced as the reason behind the incident in the investigation so far. "The investigation is on. People are investing in real estate to hide black money," he added. Krishnan, who also held the charge of ADG (Operations) said since January till July 15, three hardcore Maoists had surrendered before the police while 11 criminals and three Maoists had been injured in exchange of firing with STF. In the last over six months, the STF arrested more than 700 criminals, most of them carrying rewards on their heads. The STF has already activated a bank and jewellery loot cell in which they provide logistic support to the district police. It caught seven persons involved in Danapur Jiva jewellers dacoity case and 15 involved in Ara Tanishq showroom loot case....
