BHABUA, June 18 -- A constable allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself in the head with his AK-47 rifle inside his barrack at the police lines in Bhabua on Monday night. The exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. Police have sealed the barrack room and launched an investigation. According to officials, the constable was a resident of Bharkuda village under Barhat police station in Jamui district. He had joined duty in Kaimur district in September 2022 and was posted with the Riot Control Unit. He returned from duty around 7:30 pm and went into the barrack room he shared with a colleague. When the colleague returned later, he found the door locked from inside. After repeated calls went unanswered, the door was broken open, and the constable was found lying in a pool of blood on the bed, with his AK-47 rifle beside him. Kaimur Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Mohan Shukla, along with other senior officers, reached the spot and inspected the scene. They also questioned his colleagues in connection with the incident. The injured constable was immediately rushed to Sadar Hospital in Bhabua. Doctors there referred him to the BHU Trauma Centre in Varanasi, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His autopsy was conducted after informing his family, said DySP (Police Lines Reserve) Ramanand Mandal.
