BHABUA, July 27 -- In a joint operation by Bhabua police and the Excise Department, a Bihar police constable posted in Begusarai was arrested while smuggling a large consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Uttar Pradesh, officials said. The arrested constable was identified as Vidyacharan, a resident of Durgapur in Khagaria district. He was apprehended near the Suara bridge on the Bhabua-Chandauli road on Friday night. His associate, Gautam Kumar of Maheshwara village under Nath Kothi police station in Begusarai district, was also arrested, said Bhabua Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Umesh Kumar. The operation was led by Bhabua Station House Officer (SHO), Inspector Mukesh Kumar. "As soon as the police team spotted an SUV with a police sticker on the front approaching from the Uttar Pradesh side, they signalled it to stop. However, the vehicle tried to flee towards the fields on seeing the police personnel," the SDPO said. Following a brief chase, two occupants were nabbed, but the driver managed to escape under cover of darkness. A service pistol, six live rounds, and a police identity card were recovered from Vidyacharan. The police seized at least 478 bottles of premium IMFL (Officer's Choice brand) and six cans of beer, all manufactured at a distillery in Uttar Pradesh....
