Congress state unit stages protest, seeks CBI probe
Dehradun, Sept. 27 -- The Uttarakhand Congress on Friday intensified its agitation against the BJP government over the UKSSSC graduate-level exam alleged paper leak, staging demonstrations at district headquarters across the state and submitting memorandums to Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd) through district magistrates.
The Opposition party demanded a CBI investigation into the matter under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge.
In Dehradun, a sit-in was organised at Gandhi Park, led by state Congress president Karan Mahara.
Addressing the gathering, Mahara accused the state government of shielding the "cheating (nakal) mafia" responsible for repeated paper leaks.
He said that if the government fails to order a CBI probe, thousands of Congress workers will march to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's residence on October 3 and gherao it.
"The cheating mafia is flourishing under the protection of the government and the BJP. Either the law is weak or the government itself is complicit in this scam, which is why these mafias have no fear of the police or administration," Mahara said.
He added that unemployed youth in the state had been pushed to despair and that only the ouster of the current BJP government could restore trust.
Mahara said the government's much-touted anti-cheating law has failed to prevent the "latest paper leak".
"This exposes the hollowness of their claims. The youth are fed up with unemployment and corruption, and their anger will soon sweep this government out of power," he said.
Senior Congress leader and state vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana accused the ruling party of deliberately communalizing the issue in order to divert public attention.
"Encroachments are called 'land jihad', interfaith relationships are labelled 'love jihad', and now this exam leak has been termed 'nakal jihad'. This is a sinister attempt to malign the struggle of unemployed youth on communal lines," he said.
The BJP, on the other hand, said the Congress rule saw irregularities in several government exams and the Opposition party shouldn't politicise the issue.
BJP leader and member of Legislative Assembly Vinod Chamoli said, "The first cases of paper leaks had surfaced during the Congress government in the form of the patwari recruitment scam and the sub inspector recruitment scam," he said....
